Donkey Balls Recipe - A Delicious Snack

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

Donkey balls is a humorous name for these sausage and cream cheese snacks. They are, however, flavorful and will quickly become not only the talk of the party, but also one of the most requested recipes.

This is a great meal to serve at parties. My daughter came up with the recipe. When she went camping for the first time, she made these for the first time. My husband and I were fortunate enough to have her make some extras and bring them over to us.

While I enjoyed it plain, I instantly thought it would be even better with a drizzle of maple syrup. Below is a photo of the delectable dish. Wouldn’t it be nice if you took one off the dish and ate it? So delicious and filling.

A dipping sauce was chosen by my spouse and daughter. They came up with a recipe that included half maple syrup and half barbeque sauce. They enjoyed dipping their sausage and cream cheese appetizer in the sauce. Personally, I’ll stick with maple syrup.

These are great, and my entire family enjoys them. My two-year-old son is constantly asking for these!!! I made them for my baby shower first, and they were gone in about an hour (I doubled the quantity because there were so many!) I’m pretty sure I make them once a week now!

Donkey Balls Recipe – I Could Eat This Every Day!

All you need is a tasty snack with a clever name to be dubbed the life of the party. Donkey Balls meets both of these requirements. This meal comes together quickly and will disappear quickly when served.

Notes on the Donkey Balls Recipe

  • Salami, spicy Italian sausage, ham, mortadella, and other meats can be used in this Donkey Balls Recipe. You can experiment with different choices to determine what best suits your preferences.
  • The balls can also be made with pastry puff in a version of this recipe. The only difference will be that the balls will be a little more flaky. If you can’t get crescent dough, this will suffice.
  • It’s best if the cream cheese is at room temperature so it can readily integrate with the meat mixture.
  • Make sure the dough isn’t cold or straight from the refrigerator.
  • Just before putting the balls in the oven, brush the tops of the balls with an egg wash. Whip one egg with 2 tbsp of water until it is fluffy. While baking, this will give the balls a lovely golden color.
  • Before placing the balls in the oven, make sure it is preheated for at least 15 minutes.
  • You can also brush a little butter on the tops of the balls as soon as they come out of the oven. They’ll have a lovely gloss and a salty crust as a result of this.
  • The Donkey Balls Recipe can be prepared ahead of time and kept in the fridge or freezer. Allow them to come to room temperature before baking, and you’ll have a new batch in no time.
  • Once they’re out of the oven, add a sprig of fresh mint or thyme to the tops. Another alternative is to add dried herbs to the dough, such as dried mint or rosemary, to give them a different flavor.
